IV 3. User Profile – Roles

3.     User Profile – ROLES

Users are assigned access to various actions in PeopleSoft through Roles. These include access to the pages, processes, reports, queries, tools, etc. Each role in-turn may have one or more permissions list that act as containers for the access to be granted to the users through the roles. User profiles without any roles cannot access the PeopleSoft application.

A.     Assigning roles to User Profiles

Primary Record: PSROLEUSER

The Roles tab in the User Profile component is used to grant roles access to the user profile.

  1. Navigate to the User Profile component, and search for the user id to be updated. Once on the user profile, go to the ‘Roles’ tab.
  2. In the ‘User Roles’ grid, add the roles to be assigned to the User. Typically only non-dynamic roles are assigned manually.
  3. If Dynamic roles are configured in the system, they will automatically appear in this grid after the dynamic role assignment process is run. You can also manually run the dynamic role assignment process by clicking the ‘Execute Rules’ button in the ‘Dynamic Role Rule’ section.
  4. Save the user profile.

** The ‘Route Control’ link against the role names is used by the PeopleSoft Workflow functionality to determine which work flow items should be sent to this user profile. Refer to the Workflow Technology PeopleBook for more information how route controls are used in workflows.
